The Internet Is Your Best Friend For Valentine’s Day Gifts

The time is always drawing near. It’s that day for sweethearts and romance. If you have a special someone in your life, then you’d better not forget. Valentine’s Day is that special time for you to express how much you truly care. Now comes the hard part. What do you choose when weeding through the many gifts for Valentine’s? If there’s one thing you can rely on, it’s that all of the restaurants will be packed and you’d better have something else to offer. Luckily, gifts for Valentine’s can be found practically anywhere.

When in search of that perfect gift for Valentine’s Day, you will probably journey out to the local mall for a fun day of browsing through the numerous crowded stores for the ideal gift. Well, we all know that’s not exactly true. In reality, if you’re male, you will wait until the last minute and hit a few shops that haven’t closed yet, in a desperate search of gifts for Valentine’s. If you want to avoid this embarrassing feat that only leads to a mediocre gift at best, you can try the Internet. Cyberspace will provide you with infinite gifts for Valentine’s. Don’t break your back at the last minute. Valentine’s Day is supposed to be fun, not stressful.

Back in the day, like a few years ago, I would always hit up the mall jewelry stores for Valentine’s Day. Like most other men, I was in search of that sweet little something that wouldn’t break the bank. I mean come on, it was just Christmas. After sorting through hundreds of ear rings and bracelets, I usually settled for what was reasonably priced, yet somewhat nice. Later I began surfing the Internet for gifts. The first time I found that perfect gift for Valentine’s Day, I was dumbfounded. What had I been doing the past few years? The Internet became my closest friend.

When in search of gifts for Valentine’s, don’t head out to the local Jeweler, hop online. The selection is incomparable. You will be amazed at the cut in prices. A perfect example is a watch I recently purchased online for Valentine’s Day. My wife spotted it in a retail store at the mall. It was expensive, but I thought to myself, I will check online. Fortunately I found the same watch online for about 45 percent less. This is ridiculous, but true.  When in search of gifts for Valentine’s or any other occasion, check online for the greatest deals. If you’re not sure what to get her, jewelry is likely a sure win.

Anyone Can Make An Edible Bouquet

You say you have to get a for someone who has everything, needs nothing, and has eclectic tastes?  You note you can’t spend a lot of money, but you want the gift to speak to the love and respect you have for the person?  Here’s a great gift idea for boys, girls, men and women - edible bouquets.  Granted, the idea is not new, but I got the idea some 30 years back from my grandmother, who every Halloween would buy a bag of Tootsie Pops® and a huge pumpkin.  She would push the pops into and all over the surface of the pumpkin, making a jack-o-lantern with candy “hair”.  And so edible bouquets are ideal for special people, such as the following most deserving ones.

Say the man you respect and want to honor has three businesses and has everything.  If he, like my friend years back, had just quit smoking and has become hooked on lollipops, after he became a non-smoker.  Little Dum Dums®, those lollipops that have a gentle but perky flavor.  Say that the recipient of the edible bouquets also loves freshly cut flowers.  Here’s what you do:

1.  Go to a department store and find a gorgeous glass vase for a few dollars.  I found one for $4.50.  It was hand blown and stood about a foot high.

2.  Buy a bag of the lollipops that your friend loves fruit flavored suckers, Tootsie Pops®, Dum Dums®, etc.  This will be under five bucks.

3.  At a discount/dollar store, get a cheap but beautiful bow or ribbons.  Total cost=under $2.00.

4.  Visit the florist and ask for an oasis, a green, malleable foam block,  used by florists to arrange flowers with.  You can also sometimes get in the floral section of the major grocery stores.  The blocks are about $1.00 each.  Get a couple in case you want to stuff the vase tightly.

5.  Back at home, fill one half of the vase with half of the lollipops.

6.  Then, cut the oasis to fit fairly tightly in the vase’s neck, making it look like a bed of green grass from afar.

7.  Next, insert the lollipops, one at a time, into the oasis, starting in the center and circling outward with varying colors/flavors or all one color if you know your friend’s favorite.

8.  When the edible bouquets are finished, in under ten minutes!  Wrap the ribbon around the mouth of the vase, adding a big bow, if you bought one and present your unique and edible bouquets to their recipients!

There are many chocolatiers online who make these fresh, chocolate dipped treats and are ready to ship your chosen selection in a hurry. Product packaging is typically dramatic. Yours may come in an elegant gold box with an elaborate red bow. A black box with gold ribboning makes a big statement. Again, there are many suitable occasions to choose to present such a gift. Then again, perhaps no occasion at all may be the best! As a romantic gift, only a diamond could surpass a box of chocolate covered strawberries.

Do you see what a gold mine of a gift idea you have here? Congratulate your spouse on his promotion. You can use this gift idea for a mighty get well or as a corporate gift item to show your appreciation to your customers. With Easter in springtime, chocolate covered strawberries make a perfect hostess gift.  Let’s face it, there’s almost no occasion or event that the chocolate covered strawberry won’t mark “to the nines”.

1-800-Flowers - So Beautiful It Will Make You Want To Propose On Valentine’s Day

It can be so hard to figure out what to get your girlfriend on Valentines Day. Even though I had been dating mine for almost 12 years, it was still hard to shop for her. I felt like I hardly know her at all. All I knew was that she did not want to spend Valentines Day watching football and that she expected me to get her something. It didn’t help that last Valentines Day, I was across the country. She was in Washington D.C. And I was in California. I had forgotten to pick something out for her and it was getting down to the line as they say in football. I decided to order from 1-800-Flowers. Every girl loves flowers, even a special girl like mine.

It is important to call ahead of time. Whether or not your ordering her 1-800-Flowers, the company needs time to ship them out to their destination. Anyway, if you are like me, you do not know much about flowers. They are not exactly the most exciting topic, especially if you would rather watch sports. So I was naturally worried and like a big dope, I waited until almost the last minute to call 1-800-Flowers. The ordering company was swamped with business, and I had to wait on hold for almost an hour before they picked up and took my order. Fortunately, they were playing some of my favorite music. I got to hear both Phil Collins and Enya, and the soft lulling tones reminded me of how much I loved my girl, my very own sweetest.

I ordered her a bouquet of roses. Some guys would try to get something creative. Pansies or tulips of something, but I knew roses were the best. I contemplated just getting her a single rose, surrounded by babies breath, but I didn’t want her to think I was proposing to her or something. And anyway, nothing that looked too serious or too cheesy. A bouquet of roses – dark red one – is always the perfect gift.

When she got the 1-800-Flowers order, she immediately called me. She was practically overjoyed, she couldn’t believe her good luck. It even came with a little card she described for me in detail. It had a shiny heart wrapped in lace and pine boughs and said “To Shelly, from Stan”, exactly the one I would have picked out. I guess I was not thinking of marriage at the time, but when I saw how happy my flowers from 1-800-Flowers had made her, I broke down and surprised both of us and proposed. Well, that made things awkward for a while, but we are still dating, and she loved the flowers. Anyway, we both had a good laugh over it later that week.

Sleeping Too Much And Not Eating - Signs Of Major Depression

Have you noticed any changes in the world over the past 20 or 30 years? Clearly this would depend on your age. My folks, who are 64, claim that the world is a much different place than it was years ago. Basically they say that we have more problems now. And naturally they blame the television and film industry. Oh, and let’s not forget about those violent video games. You know what? They may be onto something. After all, the media does seem to have a strong effect on people, especially our youth. They’re constantly searching for an identity and social approval. Without these things they may feel lost. No one wants to be a pariah. For teenagers this can lead to serious withdrawal and major depression.

Who is depressed? Well, there are tell tale signs that concern or identify major depression. We all should be familiar with what these are. One is the lack of appetite. Two is withdrawal from family and friends. Three is excessive crying. Four is lacking the ability to function properly and five concerns sleeping too much. These are all common signs of major depression. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about a teenager or an adult. Watch for these things if you think one of your friends or family members is suffering with depression. The key is acquiring professional help as soon as possible. DO NOT let the condition worsen. The consequences could prove fatal.

It’s easy for a lot of us to speak out regarding major depression. This is because someone we know has probably been through the ordeal. Or maybe you’ve grappled with major depression on your own. The truth is you can move past this mental affliction with the right help and love. There is always still hope. You simply have to be ready to try. Fortunately for those suffering from major depression in this day and age have the option of treatment centers, group meetings and prescription medications to treat and hopefully remedy their condition. Remember don’t wait! Get help with depression today. Whatever you do, do not discourage or make fun of those who suffer with depression. This solves nothing, but can certainly heighten the condition. Depression is never a laughing matter.

The Gifts That Children Have To Have For Christmas

A lot of people have a hard time getting gifts for children.  What to kids want these days and how am I supposed to find out?  Knowing how openly finicky and hard to please some kids can be, having to buy gifts for children can seem a stressful task.  Buying gifts for children is really a piece of cake if you know the kids at all.  Most kids are more than happy to vocalize exactly what kind of gifts they’d like, so it isn’t hard to get some ideas directly from the source.  A brief examination of the kinds of toys and games they play with can also yield a lot of ideas.  For example, do they have a video game system?  If so, what kind of games do they seem to like?  Do they play any sports?  Do they like dolls or action figures?

If you don’t know the kids, buying gifts for children is a bit harder.  There are so many different kinds of toys out there, its hard to say what their into.  Of course, if you’re buying gifts for children chances are you at least know their parents.  Ask them!  Next to the kids themselves, parents are an invaluable source of information on gifts for children.  They’ll know exactly what kinds of toys and games their kids are into, or at least they should.

Finding good gifts for children can be kind of fun.  I’m starting to get sort of excited about it around Christmas time.  While I don’t have any kids of my own, my brother’s two boys are two and five years old, which are fun ages to shop for.  I almost feel like a kid again myself perusing through different toy aisles and trying out different products to see how they work.

Personally, since I’m shopping for boys most of the time, I find that toys that make noise and have lots of flashing lights seem to go over well with my nephews.  The looks on their parents’ faces as they tear open a gift revealing some Japanese made talking, flashing remote control robot of destruction that also plays music at nearly deafening levels is almost as priceless as the excitement the kids show.  When I have kids of my own I’m sure my brother and sister-in-law are going to repay the favor tenfold, but I’m enjoying it while I can.

Standing The Test Of Time - Hello Kitty Items Make Sensational Gifts

As a parent, I’m well aware of how quickly new toys enter and subsequently exit the marketplace in any given year. Not all of the products catch on with children, and those that do usually enjoy popularity for just a short time before giving way to the next fad. Occasionally, a toy will have such an impact on both consumers and culture alike that it endures for many, many years. Barbie dolls have achieved this kind of rarefied status, as have Matchbox cars and Mr. Potato Head. I would also put Hello Kitty items on that list as well.

Hello Kitty items have been around for more over 30 years and have been a big hit with people of all ages during that time. The very first Hello Kitty item ever introduced by the Sanrio Company was a small plastic coin pouch. Since then, hundreds of different Hello Kitty items have found their way to the marketplace. Some of the most popular products include notebooks, pencils, purses, t-shirts, key chains, video games, plush figures and coffee mugs. Sanrio often offers limited edition Hello Kitty items to celebrate holidays or other special occasions. For example, a diamond encrusted platinum pin was created to celebrate the character’s 30th birthday. Only 100 of these were offered to the public, with a price tag of over $90,000.

Even though Sanrio is based in Japan, Hello Kitty items are available all over the world. You can usually find these products in any large toy store or department store. There are even Sanrio specialty shops in larger cities across the country that offer exclusive Hello Kitty items along with products featuring other popular characters from the same manufacturer. You can also find many websites that cater specifically to collectors of hard to find Hello Kitty items.

Although Hello Kitty items are generally on the cheaper end of the scale, it never hurts to get additional discounts. So if you are looking to purchase some of these products, I recommend checking Internet auction sites or shopping sites that routinely offer merchandise for less than the suggested retail price. Granted, you aren’t likely to score any rare Hello Kitty items from this method, but you will be able to save some money while building up your collection or buying toys for your children or grandchildren.

It can be tough trying to find toys and other products featuring characters that your kids will actually like. That’s why you should stick with a proven winner that has stood the ultimate test of time. Hello Kitty items have been popular with people for three decades already and show no sign of slowing down. So the next time you need to buy a small gift, consider giving Hello Kitty items. Your recipient is sure to love the cute little cat with that distinctive red bow on it’s head!

That Time Of The Month Club - Cookies, Wine And Pasta

Do you have a favorite ‘something’ that you like so much you would join a club to get it? There are many popular ‘something’ of the month clubs, like Wine of the month club, Cheese of the month club, fruit of the month club, beer of the month club, book of the month club, etc. Most anything you love to indulge in is available to be shipped to you monthly, for three, six, twelve months or more. Some clubs will continue to send you the item until you cancel or you quit paying, like a children’s book of the month club or coffee of the month club. Gift clubs like Harry and David’s dessert of the month club must be paid for as a single purchase for a specific number of months.  This makes a nice gift for a wedding, Christmas or any other special occasion.

Joining any of these clubs is a great way to sample different varieties of your favorites that you may not have tried otherwise.  Club selections are gifts that keep on giving, appropriate for anyone who has a favorite ‘something’. Clubs of America at www.greatclubs.com has a good selection of clubs to choose from if you’re not sure what you’re looking for, and there is no minimum membership time required. Another great site is www.findgift.com for unique gifts like the dinner of the month club from Flying Noodle Gourmet Gifts, a monthly treat that anybody would love! You’ll also want to check out www.amazingclubs.com for more unique gift ideas. This site has some tasty options like pasta of the month club and cheesecake of the month club among many others.

The clubs mentioned above, like most others, offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee to members. Whatever your favorite or someone else’s favorite ‘something’ is, there’s probably a gift club for it.  Though I think the fruitcake of the month club went by the wayside quite some time ago! Sorry, you might be of out luck on that one! I’m sure you can find another favorite!

The Yummiest Combination Is Chocolate & Peanut Butter

What is it about the chocolate peanut butter combination that is so enchanting to many of us? There are few people I know who don’t like this particular pairing of tastes.  Most of these individuals are allergic to nuts otherwise I am sure that they would appreciate the recipes. There are tons of things you can do with the chocolate peanut butter in your cooking endeavors. Following are some tasty ideas.

Pizza is one of the most popular dishes on the planet. Some of us just can’t get enough of this classic edible even when it comes to dessert. You can make a great chocolate peanut butter pizza for a sweet treat. There are a few different variations of the basic recipe that you can use for experimentation.  I can personally attest that the chocolate peanut butter pizza is a generally good sweet. The dessert is ideal for the kids especially if you are considering a pizza party. The idea of having pizza for dinner and chocolate peanut pizza for dessert is a dream come true for many kids. It makes for a great birthday party theme for children of all ages.

Some prefer a traditional approach to their sweets. Many of the best cookie recipes on the planet offer the chocolate peanut butter pairing that is so popular among many dessert lovers. There are a few variations of the cookie recipe that can be used. The results are so different that you can make several versions of the chocolate peanut butter cookie that taste completely different from one another.

For example, the buckeye is a traditional chocolate peanut butter cookie recipe that tastes completely different than most others. This simple recipe can be altered if you add chunks of peanuts, chocolate chips or even coconut into the mix. Guests will love this great treat.

The buckeye cookie is really different from most other cookies especially those with a flour base. I love adding a chocolate peanut butter cup into a regular sugar cookie as it is baking. I just place one on the top of each cookie when there are only a couple of minutes left for them to finish baking.

There are many more chocolate peanut butter recipes to try including pies and cakes among others. In time you should have a great collection of ideas. You may even find that this combination is ideal for many different occasions.

Everyone Loves Thomas The Engine

My daughter was always into the Wiggles. Don’t get me wrong, she still is but one day she got a gift that totally shocked me. She loved it and I had no idea she would like it so much. A friend gave her a Thomas the Engine set she had bought at a huge discount and my daughter was the proud recipient. She fell in love with Thomas immediately. She even took Thomas to her last Wiggle’s concert, so I guess she’s found room to love both at the same time.

This Thomas the Engine set she got came with a three-piece train, a small round track with a bridge and a few accessories. What surprised me the most about her receiving this Thomas the Engine was that she played with it for hours and I didn’t hear a peep out of her. It was so quiet I had to go see what was going on. It was very unusual, as any parent of a young child might tell you. She fell in love with Thomas the Engine that day and has not looked back.

Since that day, she has gotten other forms of Thomas the Engine as gifts. She has an electric one that runs on a plastic track and she has gotten different engines was well. Though she has a few engines to choose from now, Thomas the Engine remains her favorite and goes everywhere she goes. She may not play with him when we are out but she keeps him in the bottom of her bag, just in case. Though there are times he never sees the light of day, he has been introduced to one of the Wiggles by my daughter.

You can find Thomas the Engine in a lot of places, though what you will pay for him will vary. I know the set my daughter first got was on discount but retailed for quite a bit of money. However, the set was made of wood and has turned out to be very durable. The electric version to Thomas the Engine was not nearly as expensive but it tends to have more problems and the batteries tend to die rather quickly. Your child will enjoy it no matter what version you buy and if you really want to save some money, check out yard sales nearby or look on eBay to see if you can get a good deal.
