There’s One For You - New York City Events

Though I do not live in New York City, many times I like to know what is going on. It would take me about four or five hours to drive there, but that does not mean I wouldn’t do so for the right event. It seems there are always New York City events going on and many of them are of some interest to me. The city is just close enough so I could travel there if I want to, but far enough away where it doesn’t affect my daily life. Though I love to visit the city, I moved a way from a city because it all became too much for me at one point.

It seems that there are a multitude of New York City events from which to choose every single day of the week. New York City is a large, vibrant city that has people from all races, ethnic backgrounds and religious affiliations. This can make for some pretty interesting events. If you like something that you cannot find in your own community, chances are good that there will be a few New York City events that will cater to exactly what you are looking for. As long as you know when to go, you can go and have the time of your life.

There are many places to find out about New York City events. I have a friend who lives in New Jersey and she knows a lot about the things that I like. If she finds any New York City events that she thinks I might be interested in, she shoots me off an e-mail or calls me on the phone to let me know. She knows that many times I will not be able to attend, but she also knows that I appreciate her letting me know what is going on. In many ways, it is almost like having my own New York City tour guide.

If you don’t have a friend like I do, you may have to find another way to find out what is going on in New York City. Luckily for you, this is quite simple. A quick search online will give you more results that you know what to do with. Because there are so many New York City events, there are just as many web sites and online publications that list times, places and suggestions. Once you find a site that gives you what you need, make sure you bookmark it so you can return there in the future. This will cut down on your confusion. Also remember that if you are going to go into the city for any events that you call ahead to make sure all information you have found is correct.

A Perfect Day With Dad - The Boat Show

When I was a kid, I used to love going to the Detroit boat show. My dad was an avid boater and so was I. He was an incredible workaholic, but boating was the one thing that he would take time off for from time to time. Every Sunday, we would load up and go off to the lake. My mom would sit in the shade and read while the rest of us would go on the boat. Sometimes we would get to go boat racing, but more often we would just cruise around up and down the lake, enjoying the wind and water. Boat shows were a fantastic time of year for both of us. As a little kid, it felt like a museum to me. I loved getting to see all the big boats filling the room. There were all kinds of different watercraft, from rowboats to luxury yachts, from bass boats to racing boats to pontoon boats.

My dad would go there shopping for boat accessories most times, but I would be there to see all of the big ships. One time, in fact, I got so excited that I tried to pull one of the boats. To my surprise, it moved. The problem was that the boat was tied to other boat trailers in a row. When I pulled the first one, each boat magnified the force. By the time it got to the last one, someone actually almost fell off the deck!

For the most part I wouldn’t get into trouble at the boat show. I knew that if I made a fuss, my parents wouldn’t take me there next year. That alone was too much to bear. Instead, I would wander around the boat show, politely asking questions about the different boats. I would find out how big a boat was, how fast it could go, how long it could stay at sea and then go back to my dad to report the facts. Now I realize that he wasn’t really listening. At the time he pretended to be interested. Giving me something to do at the boat show would keep me busy and stop me from causing any trouble. Getting me to leave at the end was a different matter entirely. Usually, the only way to do it was to bribe me with ice cream. I didn’t mind, it was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Wherever And Whoever You Are - You Can Play Floor Hockey

The sport of floor hockey has grown in popularity over the years, and intramural and other teams can now be found in communities, schools, and even colleges and universities.  It is a unique game in that it evens the playing field for those who may enjoy the game of hockey, but are not be able to play on ice for physical or other reasons. It gives both children and adults who are not skilled in ice or roller skating the opportunity to participate in the game. Floor hockey also provides an opportunity for those who do not live in cool climates or have access to an indoor skating rate the chance to participate in the enjoyable and fast paced team sport of hockey.

As the name suggests, ice hockey is the foundation for the game. Like ice hockey, floor hockey is generally played in a rink. But instead of ice, the rink is usually made of either concrete or wood.  Because it does not require the ability to skate or move about easily on an icy surface, it is an ideal team sport for many athletes with disabilities. Floor hockey has been adopted as a wheelchair sport and it is also the single team sport in the Winter Special Olympics.

Play involves the use of a puck, stick and goals. In most organized games, teams will consist of five or six players. Floor hockey players must be skilled in stick handling and shooting, as well as in passing the puck to their team members. Points are scored the same way as in ice hockey, and floor hockey goalies must be alert and quick to act to avoid allowing the opposing team to score. Generally, floor hockey players use pucks and sticks specifically designed for indoor play. One of the major differences between floor hockey and ice hockey is that players of floor hockey generally do not wear protective gear, so some safety modifications have been made to the game.

It is a sport that is adaptable to almost any location and an activity that can be enjoyed by players of varying skill levels.  Floor hockey has become an increasingly popular activity. Children and adults can enjoy it in a variety of educational and community settings.

A similar game is floorball, which uses sticks made from lighter plastic materials and a ball instead of a puck. Floorball is believed to have originated from floor hockey, which goes to show how the game of hockey in general has been adapted to allow enthusiasts with various skill levels, resources and geographical limitations to enjoy the sport.

Who Needs Fame And Fortune - Just Sing In Singing Competitions

There are singing competitions all over the country now, where young singers can compete for cash prizes, and the chance of fame and fortune. American Idol is the best known of these singing competitions, but there are many others as well. There is one in Las Vegas with a $50,000 cash prize just for winning the singing contest. Besides that, there is European Idol, which is sweeping much of the rest of the world with it’s unprecedented popularity.

My friends and I all love to sing, but we basically completely ignore these singing competitions. I don’t even think the singing is particularly good. It is all bad pop music, saccharine sweet and completely without soul. We have our own singing competitions and although no one ever gets 50 grand for winning them, I think that they are a lot more fun anyway.

Sometimes after several rounds of drinks, we will pick a song and compete, doing different renditions of it. Whoever can sing it in the loudest, grittiest, most raucous and audacious intonation automatically wins, and everyone has to buy him or her a drink. By the next round of that contest, the winner of the previous one has a clear advantage, and usually whoever wins the first one wins all night, or until he passes out.

Because we are classically trained vocalists, our singing competitions are not always quite so ridiculous. Sometimes we form duos, trios or quartets among ourselves, and entertain our other non-singing friends at parties. They have to vote on which piece is best or perhaps we informally decide among ourselves.

Since we are in professional choirs, we sometimes attend real singing competitions. They receive little attention and many professionals shun them.  Nonetheless they are in fact singing competitions where choirs from all over the state compete for a prize and the recognition of their peers. The best thing about these singing competitions isn’t actually the trying to win, it’s the festive atmosphere of the whole thing. It is wonderful to spend all day just singing some classics with some of the best singers in the country.  These singing competitions are always the highlights of the seasons because it is such an opportunity to be around other great artists, hear what they are doing, and pick up new ideas.

As Big A Wall - Large Screen Televisions

My first encounter with the big screen television was way before your time, or at least way before the current time where the big screen television actually exists.  For me, it was reading Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451.  In the novel, Montag’s wife stays at home and interacts as a star with the other actual soap opera stars.  She plays a “part” by participating in virtual television.  The characters on the big screen television would do their thing, following a script and a story line, and then would turn to face the interior of the parlor, speaking to Mildred Montag as if she were one of the characters.

From the way Bradbury envisioned the big screen television, I fell in love.  It was wall-sized, it was the wall.  It was, in my imagination, the size and impact of the surround-o-rama amusement park and Expo screens where you watch a movie and are in it because you are standing in the center of the screening room with the action on all walls.  So, for example, when you are in a police chase scene, riding in the cop car, you see the buildings whooshing past on your right and left, see cars behind you on the streets and see the escapee in front of you.

Of course, the latest big screen television technology for the homestead is not as grandiose or as complex, it would cost millions.  But, the concept is the same and the promise is there.  To sit in front of the now, what? 10 foot screen? Is a childish dream come to fruition, realized by the adult wallet.

We had a rental store here for a few short years for those full sized DVDs, the ones that were the size of the old 33 LPs.  In the rental shop they kept a big screen TV that was always playing a movie.  Since my boyfriend at that time was a freak, one who had to look at every item on every row FIRST, then go back to the choices.  I would, instead of following him about endlessly, sit down in the cushy leather furniture and watch whatever was playing.  I didn’t give a damn if it was Land Before Time or Shaft.  I was absolutely mesmerized by the size, the colors, the near clarity that the big screen television afforded the spoiled viewer.

We are spoiled.  We have thousands of makes and models of autos, have millions of books, periodicals and websites, have millions of games and toys.  We have competing salons and beauty shops, competing medical and dental programs and services, and have multiple cuisines lined up in one block for us to choose from.  But I would give up almost all the choices to have just one wall sized big screen TV.

God Loves Us - So Give Beer Gifts

Benjamin Franklin wrote that beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. For this reason, I like to give beer gifts to friends and family, especially my husband. The reason I love to give beer gifts to my husband is that he shares the beer gifts with his wife. Every time he gets a beer gift he says, “Exactly what we wanted!”

Actually, most of the beer gifts I buy for my husband are mostly glasses, shirts and signs. He loves the old bar room mirrors and they make wonderful presents for a collector. Since we are from the Pittsburgh area, I choose Iron City as the brand for the beer gifts that include items like mirrors and glasses.

I do like to indulge in unique beer gift that are made up of, well, beer. The beer of the month is a great present to get any beer enthusiast. I do get a little worried about buying beer gifts that requires membership to a club. Things change from month to month and I’m not sure if I want to make a commitment like a membership just to come up with unique beer gifts.

The beer of the month option for beer gifts does allow the buyer to opt out of the membership at any time with no questions asked. I may look into finding out if I can buy a one year membership for my husband’s birthday this year. I think that this will be one of the nicest presents I have ever gotten for him, but again, I have to consider the investment.

I can create my own beer gifts anytime that I want to. For some reason, baskets do not seem to fit these kinds of presents. Wine and cheese baskets are wonderful, but for beer gifts the baskets would contain warm beer and nacho cheese. It just doesn’t seem appealing. If I were to assemble baskets for beer gifts, I would include items like glasses, bottle openers and cozies. Of course, a t-shirt makes a great present that fits well into a basket.

I think that my husband’s idea of great beer gifts include ice cold beer and hot pizza. This is his traditional birthday dinner that we both enjoy. In fact, we had beer and pizza on our first date and we celebrate our anniversary with beer gifts that include ice cold beer and pizza and a hotel room. It’s the best combination.

How Cool Would A Custom Playhouse Be?

Do you have children? Well, the fact of the matter is when you have little ones there is a definite entertainment issue. Now I’m not talking about how much they entertain you, but rather how well you can keep them entertained. Believe me, kids need to stay occupied or they basically get bored. That boredom kicks in after about two minutes. So, the big question now is, what are you doing to keep your rugrats busy. We all want our kids to enjoy themselves and have a wonderful childhood. Therefore what would you say to custom playhouses? Ah ha, I’ll bet you never pondered this particular concept. Sure, you may have considered swing sets and tricycles, but did you ever really give much thought to custom playhouses? These are a brilliant way to keep your children entertained.

You know what I always wanted when I was growing up? Do the words “custom playhouses” mean anything to you? Yes indeed, I wanted my very own home away from home. You know, that place where you can retreat to in order to ditch the folks and or siblings for a while. Back then I did not come across too many custom playhouses to choose from. My father did eventually aid me in constructing a tree house. In fact, we put one up just behind the back yard, in the woods. It didn’t remain private for too long. Before I knew it, every friend I had was asking to play in my tree house. Oh well, at least it was a blast, even if it wasn’t exclusive.

This hand built playhouse lasted me for years to come. It wasn’t until I finally outgrew it that I stopped hanging out in there. Now you can purchase custom playhouses. Don’t know where to start browsing? No problem! You have a home computer with Internet access right? Then it’s time to get jacked into the World-Wide-Web. Hop online now and browse through a vast array of custom playhouses. With the world at your fingertips, the possibilities are endless. You can acquire pricing and building expenses via the web. In addition, you can find out how long it would take to have custom playhouses built for your children. Find that ideal playhouse to suit your family. Let those little ones have a blast in their own little home.

Sip Cool Drinks With Warm Breezes - Beach House Rentals

Using beach house rentals, you can easily have your dream vacation anywhere on the ocean or lake. Beach house rentals allow you the pleasure of a scenic seaside vacation and are popular all over the world. Some like to travel in winter to warmer climates while others because of their schedules, get to travel in summer when the weather is at it’s hottest to take advantage of the mild weather and cool breeze going in off the ocean.

My favorite beach house rentals are in Mexico. The dollar gets you far there and it is easy for an American professional to be able to afford to sit on the beach sipping margaritas all day, without a care in the world. The nightlife in a city like Cancun is out of this world, with night clubs open from dusk until dawn filled with beautiful women and men just there to have a great time and live it up while they are young. I can almost hear the thumping beat and see the pretty girls dancing now when I think about it.

Of course, anywhere where there are beaches, there are likely to be beach house rentals, so you can go where you want to to suit your tastes. For some, a trip to the lovely green hills of Ireland is more their speed and the cool, rocky, foggy shores do good things for their soul. Or of course, the Caribbean with it’s balmy weather and mellow, laid back culture has many popular destinations for beach house rentals. You could go to Jamaica if you wanted to, like I did once, listen to reggae and steel drum all night, and go back home with a new lease on life.

What really matters is that you know how to relax on your vacation, to unwind and have fun like you deserve to. It isn’t so much what you do as how you do it. Don’t worry about getting everything done, everything planned, and everything seen. Remember, wherever you are, you are most likely there to live and to enjoy it. If you understand that, then you understand life because in many ways, life should be a vacation, a place where you savor every moment, take time to stop and look around, and of course sip cool drinks on the beach whenever possible. If you can take this lesson back from your vacation, then the trip has been well worth it.

Keep Fido In Style With Leather Dog Collars

I’ve been fortunate enough to grow up around dogs my whole life.  In fact, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have at least one four-legged companion following me all over the house.  Either back when I was a kid or now that I am an adult.  Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about how to care for my best friends.  I bring them to the vet for regular checkups, make sure they get all their shots and vaccinations on time, feed them the best food and make sure that they have plenty of toys to keep themselves entertained.  I also make sure to buy all the best supplies, including leather dog collars and leashes.

A lot of my friends ask me why I insist on spending so much money to take care of my pets.  According to their reasoning, for example, I should forget about buying higher priced items such as leather dog collars when I can easily get cheaper alternatives made from nylon or other materials.  My answer is that I simply like how leather dog collars look.  They come in a variety of styles and colors and the quality is exceptional these days.  Many people tend to envision leather dog collars with metal studs sticking out of them, but while that is certainly one of the most popular styles, it’s definitely not the only one.  There are some very classy and elegant leather dog collars on the market today and you can even order personalized ones that have your pet’s name branded or embossed on them.  I like to have several different leather dog collars on hand and rotate them so that my pets have a new look on a regular basis.  It’s fun for me and I like to think it’s fun for them too!

I will admit that leather dog collars cost more than I usually like to spend on pet supplies, so I’m constantly on the lookout for good deals.  I’ve found that buying them online saves me more money than buying them from the pet supply superstore in my city.  That’s because there are hundreds of websites that specialize in offering wholesale pet products to the general public.  As a result, I’m able to shop at several different websites and locate the cheapest prices on leather dog collars in just a few minutes.  With that kind of convenience, savings and selection at my fingertips, why shouldn’t I splurge a little on my beloved pets?

So the next time you want to buy some leather dog collars to keep your favorite pets looking stylish and cool, check out some discount pet supply websites.  You’ll get great deals on all of the basic necessities and elegant extras that you want for your dogs.

Be On The A List With Celebrity Answering Machine Audio

You can download answering machine audio files on the internet to make funny or entertaining messages on your machine to amuse and entertain your friends. Answering machine audio is important because when people call your answering machine, the message you convey tells about who you are and what you believe in. If you can spice up your messages with neat answering machine audio files by celebrities who tell your friends and colleagues to leave a message at your number, it adds a little more style to your presentation and more fun to their day as well. My friend even had an answering machine which played recordings of bugs bunny saying “what’s up doc!, eh, leave a message”. It was hysterical and everyone who heard it knew him as the Bugs Bunny guy, which added to his popularity.

Many people who have clients or colleagues calling their house want an answering machine audio message that is much more regular and straight forward, more professional sounding than this. They are less concerned with fun than with sounding businesslike. I’ve heard stories about a friend who is a professional photographer, losing a very important client because of his silly answering machine audio message with a tough guy Arnold Schwartzenegger voice telling people “leave a message and I’ll be back,” making reference to Terminator 2. The client thought that this wasn’t very professional and said as much on his answering machine.  He decided to take his business somewhere else. Because of that my photographer friend lost a potentially very lucrative wedding job all in the name of having a little fun.

I’ve actually heard radio stations offering answering machine audio recordings by celebrities as prizes for calling in or appearing on a show. This would be so cool, if your friends listen to the same radio as you do. Personally, I’m a big fan of car talk on NPR and the idea of having Click and Clack telling people to leave a message on my answering machine is pretty funny to me. I’d be a bit of a minor celebrity overnight with my friends. They’d all want to know how I’d managed to do it, to get these two great radio personalities to record a custom message for me. And I wouldn’t have to tell them. They would just have to listen to my answering machine audio message and try to figure it out for themselves.
