What was the last great book you had the pleasure of reading? Was it a romance novel or good mystery? Then again, maybe that new age Tom Brown stuff is right up your alley. A lot of folks are getting into those enigmatic puzzle plots these days. It’s just plain intriguing. Regardless of where your reading interests lie, you can always get a recap of what’s considered the top ten best seller books. The “New York Times” rates this stuff all the time. They can give you the latest scoop on which novels to check out and which ones to avoid. After all, this is heavy duty entertainment we’re talking about here. A good book is practically incomparable. I know I could use a few more in my life.
I haven’t read much lately. Well, that’s not exactly true. I’ve been busy most of the time and I use my spare reading time to go through Gavin De Becker’s book on safety. It may not be on the best seller books list, but it’s a wonderful source of useful knowledge. And no, not all knowledge is very useful. This particular book, “Protecting the Gift,” elaborates on crime and violence. Particularly against children and women. This is THE book to own in you have kids. Like I said, it’s rich with valuable information. And better yet, it’s true.
There are a number of real stories throughout the text. Sure, some may make you cry and some may make your heart drop, but they’re reality nonetheless. It’s crucial for us all to stay in touch with reality. This gives us better defenses against it’s harshness and cruel side. To live in the dark will only make you a victim. Anyway, this book, “Protecting the Gift,” is a great way to learn more about the dangers of the world and yourself. It’s not meant to make you worry. It’s meant to make you aware and not waste time worrying. Because if you’re wasting time worrying, then you’re not paying attention to what’s really going on.
You’d better believe that most people are interested in the top ten list. They want to know what best seller books receive the most raves. These are the ones they’ll probably use their spare time to read. I, on the other hand, am not interested in best seller books. It all depends on the topic, not the popularity or hype.

If you’ve been online for any length of time you’ll have noticed advertisements promising the chance to make money at home. With many people losing their jobs, the idea of being able to make some income from the computer seems like a great thing. Many companies that promise the chance to make a large income at home are actually looking to take your money away from you. They may request an up front fee before you can begin working for them. These are the jobs that you want to avoid. You should never have to pay another person to make money online.
Paid online surveys are actually a legitimate way to make a few dollars while you are sitting at your computer. Although most paid online surveys won’t make you rich, they will afford you some extra spending cash. The idea behind paid online surveys is very simple. Companies are looking to better their business. They want to know how they can do this. By creating a survey that potential customers can take, a business can begin to understand what they need to do to improve their sales. With a compilation of several surveys all with similar answers, this helps a company realize where they can make improvements. It actually results in a better experience for future clients and customers of that business.
There are several websites that offer their visitors the chance to take paid online surveys. How these usually work is the visitor fills out a request form that includes their personal information and any specific areas of interest. When a survey comes up that matches that person’s demographic group and interest, they are offered the opportunity to participate in that paid online survey. Some examples of industries that utilize paid online surveys are car manufacturers, delivery companies, airlines and hotels. If you have a strong interest in one of these businesses when a survey is made available you will be contacted and asked to participate.
Most paid online surveys take a bit of time to complete. They aren’t one or two pages in length, but tend to be several pages of very detailed questions. The questions are normally followed by several available answers. Some paid online surveys offer the consumer the chance to rate things. The rating scale is usually between five to ten stars.
Paid online surveys are an easy way for someone who spends time at a computer to make a little extra income. They are also a great method of sharing your opinion and really knowing that someone is taking your suggestions into consideration.

We know there are many needs calling for a “certified copy of birth certificate”. What we think would be typically only in one place or maybe two places, we can get exactly that, a CERTIFIED copy of birth certificate information. The operative word here is “certified.” For many of us getting a driver’s license for the first time, we need to show certified copy of birth certificate data. As the driver’s license will be the first identification we get after that birth certificate, except maybe if we have already gotten a social security number card.
For traveling abroad, a person needs to get a passport and that means getting a certified copy of birth certificate first. A photocopy will not be sufficient. It has to be the real thing. If you marry an immigrant who does not have a visa already, here in the United States, we must provide a certified copy of birth certificate. A photocopy will not do. Immigration procedures require birth data, the certified copy of birth certificate or other official birth records. And even adult adoptees in many states and on many occasions would like to have copies of their birth records.
The principle behind the certified copy of birth certificate is it’s an official document. The official or certified copy of the document is stamped by the registrar, making a raised or embossed impression on the certificate that is not captured by an ordinary photocopy machine. The certification also means there is a registrar’s signature, the date of issue was filed with the registry office and your birth information. This info differs by location or period of time, but usually includes parents’ names, your given birth name and your vital statistics at birth.
For starters, if you do not have or lost your original, you can apply for a copy, a certified copy, that is depending on where you live and were born. For example, according to adviceguide.org.uk, if you are in England and was born there, you can get a certified copy of birth certificate from the Family Records Centre, the General Register Office, or by post or going in person to the local register office where the birth was originally recorded. In the United States, you can contact a Bureau of Vital Statistics in the state in which you were born. You must write a letter stating your purposes and requesting an application, then you will send the completed application, along with a small check and identifying information that only you have the right to.
There are also services that claim to help you get a copy of your certificate, but make sure they are legitimate and have a good professional reputation and standing. Check with the Better Business Bureau before paying anything to someone else who claims they can get information usually only you and government officials have access to.

These days you can never be too careful. It’s truly hard to distinguish the good guys from the bad. Do you know your neighbor or that suspicious looking man down the street? Well, if the answer is no, then you’re not alone. Many of us never genuinely know one another. While this may sound discouraging, there are ways of better knowing those you encounter on a regular basis. In fact, the Internet allows any Joe Shmoe to do background searches on whom they please. Ah, the fresh air of technology. You no longer have to wonder with concern.
Have you ever considered doing background searches on your fellow employees? It’s not that absurd. Your employers do it all the time. This is a good way to attain a better idea of who you’re working with. Background searches in general provide an employer with essential information, which may or may not prevent someone from being hired. I recall when I had to do a routine background search on an applicant. After finding out that he had priors for drug trafficking, I had no interest in hiring him. The fact is that people lie every day. The good thing is we can get around many of those lies with modern day background searches via the Internet. Most people don’t even seem to recognize all of the software out there. You can purchase software in order to find out all sorts of things. This is one of the major advantages to having Internet access. Little can be hidden.
When relocating to a new area, my wife and I like to do background searches in order to acquire certain knowledge on neighborhoods. You can do a search on sex offenders in your area. You can also obtain information on where they live. We all have to admit, especially if we are parents, this is dire information to attain before purchasing a home. After all, no one wants to live in an unsafe neighborhood where sex offenders are lurking about. Jump online and check out the different ways to do background searches. That neighbor you are so curious about may be harboring something worth knowing. These days it is our right to know those we next to. We constantly have to fight to keep our children out of danger. In this unsafe and unpredictable world we all share, it’s nice to know that we can achieve background searches at the click of a mouse and from the safety of our own home.

Paper shredders are a good and relatively inexpensive way to guard yourself against identity theft and also to help you protect your privacy. I use a paper shredder routinely at home to shred up mail and papers that I do not wish to end up in the wrong hands.
I receive credit card applications in the mail constantly. I use a paper shredder to destroy these applications because if I just threw them away, someone could easily take one and try to use my identity to get a new credit card. It doesn’t take more than a name and some other personal information to start assuming an identity. According to the Federal Trade Commission, treating your mail and trash carefully is one way to protect yourself against the rising crime of identity theft.
There are many styles of paper shredders available today. You can find them in all major office supply stores as well as places such as Wal-Mart or Target. One type of paper shredder is the strip cut paper shredder. This paper shredder cuts paper into long strips. For added security, you can consider a cross cut paper shredder which cuts the paper both horizontally as well as vertically. The price of a paper shredder will also depend on the volume of paper to be shredded on a daily basis. Lower volume shredders can shred about 150 sheets of paper daily and are usually goof for a home user. Higher volume paper shredders cost more and are designed for faster shredding needed in an office environment.
A paper shredder may be sold as an integrated unit. That is the paper shredder comes with its own built in rack to hold the shredded paper. Other paper shredders may be stand alone units that rest on a standard size waste basket. Industrial paper shredders may also be able to shred cardboard, CDs, and other heavy duty materials. A light duty home use paper shredder may cost anywhere from $30-$100 dollars depending on the features selected. An office paper shredder can cost from $700-$1500. An industrial, super strength model for manufacturing and high volume sites can cost thousands of dollars.
I have a paper shredder at my home. For myself, it was important to make sure there were safety features available to prevent my kids from having accidental contact with the shredder. Look carefully at all the features and read the manufactures instructions before you start shredding. Today, it is more important than ever to safeguard private information. The cost of a paper shredder is a small investment compared to the price you may pay if your sensitive information ends up in the wrong place.

In this day and age a good majority of home owners either own light timers or are seriously considering investing in them. With so many risks taken by just owning a home, light timers seem to be a good investment that can even make you a nice return on investment. The chance of break ins and peeping toms surely would be cut down by using light timers because of the different ways they can be used. It might not make sense until you really think about it, but timing a light to turn on by itself at specified times can dramatically cut down on things like vandalism.
These light timers can make sure that no part of your property is left in the dark, creating a dangerous atmosphere for anyone who might be in the area and up to no good. Criminals are known to watch certain homes to get a sense of when people are home or not. With the absence of lights in the home after dark this can be a clear indicator that the property is vacant.
You can also create an illusion that people are living in the home enjoying a quiet evening even if no one is really home by putting light timers on a scheduled rotation of lighting the property. At certain times of the evening different lights can light up making it seem as if someone at home had turned them on manually. Using light timers inside the home are an even better way to create an illusion of someone being home when they really aren’t. Using light timers on things like televisions adds even more to the believable effect.
Light timers have a tendency to minimize the risk of vandalism, theft, or other unwanted activity, they can also offer a return on investment in regards to what you spend on security on a monthly basis. When it comes to insurance premiums or security systems, having light timers installed on your property and within your home very well may be taken into consideration when the premiums for insurance and security systems are considered.
By using them you have minimized the risk of crime taking place on your property, insurance companies have less of a risk in offering you an insurance policy and security companies have less of a risk when protecting your home and being on call for potential incidents. When using light timers as part of a security system for your home and property, your family is safer, your belongings are safer, and you can live with a stronger peace of mind than if light timers were not a part of your property.

As a Maryland DUI lawyer, I have a job that requires more philosophy than most. You see, I have to face the fact that, a lot of the time, I am going to work to defend people who are probably guilty. People who’s behavior may of put others in danger, or even caused them injury or death. But as a Maryland DUI lawyer, I can sleep soundly at night despite all of these things because, while all the people who criticize me believe in vengeance, I believe in justice. And believing in justice means believing in the justice system, where everyone is entitled to fair representation in court, and everyone is entitled to the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty. Many people think that anyone even accused of drunken driving is scum and should be locked up and have the key thrown away. I see it differently. I think that we should not judge these people in the court of public opinion and really should say as little about their actions either way until the court system has had it’s say on the matter.
Before I was a Maryland DUI lawyer, I felt differently on the matter. One of my earliest memories growing up, was of having my parents car broad sided by a drunken driver. Fortunately, we were all wearing our seat belts and no one was permanently injured. But, my father’s back gave him trouble for years after that incident, and my mother suffered panic attacks. Growing up, I was in Students Against Drunken Driving and even wrote letters to my congressman asking for tougher punishments for DUI. If you had told me, growing up, that I was going to be a Maryland DUI lawyer, I would have said that you were crazy.
Being a Maryland DUI lawyer isn’t the same as being for drunken driving, or even for drunken drivers. A Maryland DUI lawyer is just one special type of criminal defense attorney. That is, an attorney who specializes in defending people against criminal charges. Our justice system is based on the idea that there are two sides to every story. As a trial lawyer, I make sure that my clients have their side told to the jury and judge, and that they know all of their rights when facing the serious accusation of driving under the influence. A Maryland DUI lawyer is every bit as much a part of the process of seeing justice done as a judge or prosecutor.

Who doesn’t like kung-fu flicks? I think it’s safe to say that millions of us watched these cheesy films as kids, and maybe even still do on occasion. On this is for sure, they’re not nearly as popular as they were back in the day. Folks now are more interested in CG and things a human body cannot truly do without the assistance of a computer. I suppose this is only natural since we have the technology. The classic martial arts weapons are also becoming a thing of the past. These days it’s all about high-tech firearms and explosives. It’s not realistic for Jet Li to face an opponent in downtown Los Angeles with a Tiger Fork or 8 foot spear. Martial arts are definitely evolving to suit the times.
If you’re into some sort of martial style, then you already know that the martial arts world is changing and evolving. That stuff Bruce Lee was rambling on about is dead on the money. Talk about a fellow that was far ahead of his time. Folks commend him now days, while he caught plenty of grief back then. As fighting styles continue to evolve and intertwine, martial arts weapons are getting less popular. Now let’s ponder this issue for a moment. Traditional martial arts weapons, aside from the knife, are not viable in modern day life. There are literally over 100 of them, and most are too large or obscure to wield in a public setting. Besides, in reality no martial arts weapons can compete with a firearm. We heard Bruce Lee say it back in the early 70’s and it holds true today. That nunchaku scene you saw last week in a kung-fu flick was entertaining and all, but only a fool would brandish those if assaulted in an alley or dark parking level. A knife, tazer, firearm or can of pepper spray would be much more effective.
Don’t get me wrong! When it comes to traditional martial arts weapons and forms, they do have their place. They can be fun to learn and certainly build precision, strength and coordination. Furthermore, you can still purchase any of them you please. However, if you’re doing it for real self-defense, you might want to ask yourself what’s really practical.

From the looks of things, people love California. I don’t know if it’s the sandy beaches or the constant sunshine. Possibly it’s a little of both. How do I know folks adore this sunshine state? The population of L.A. alone says it all. At this point I don’t see how there’s any room left for anyone else to move in. They must be whipping up houses and apartment complexes down there like mad. And with this vast population comes plenty of crime and mayhem. Hey, if you want the sunny weather and infinite amenities of Southern California, you have to take the cons as well. Get it, cons? Anyway for those who do reside in L.A., it’s probably a prudent idea to keep yourself posted with Los Angeles inmate information. And I’m not just talking to those who have a family member to visit behind bars.
We’re seriously blessed in this day and age with technology galore. In the past you may have had to hit-up the local library for Los Angeles inmate information, but that’s the old days. Try the personal computer in your home. Pretty much everyone in America has at least one of these. As long as you have access to the Internet, you’re good to go. My advice is to research Los Angeles inmate information. Find out what inmates have been released back into society, and which ones decided to take up residence near your home or neighborhood. This is actually not a concept exclusive to L.A., New York City and Chicago. It really doesn’t matter where you live, there are criminals and criminal activity in your area. If you reside in a large city such as Miami, then naturally you’ll be dealing with more inmate information.
This information is free of charge. There are public domains you can visit on the web. Acquire the Los Angeles inmate information that pertains to your area and feel safer in your own home. Furthermore, if you have an acquaintance in prison, you can use sources such as the Los Angeles inmate information database to pinpoint their location. Find out what facility is holding them and schedule a visit. These new-age resources were designed for folks like you and me. Take advantage of what the information age has to offer.

Security cages come in all shapes and sizes, and can allow for a great deal of peace of mind for many business owners, from mom-and-pop shops to multi billion dollar corporations. Security cages allow businesses and even private homes to keep important materials secure, even within a general-access area of a building.
Large security cages can cover areas the size of entire rooms and can either be portable or permanently anchored into the surrounding building. Portable systems allow the cages to be broken down and transported to other locations, helpful if a business moves often or has contracted positions at a variety of locations. Permanent cages, though more expensive to install, are generally more secure and harder to break into than portable systems.
Most large cages are either made up of chain link fencing, similar to that used in outdoor fences or wire mesh. Chain link fence, though cheaper to purchase and install, generally doesn’t provide the same security as wire mesh. Both however, can be permanent or portable and can be used to seal off large areas of rooms or even entire areas of a building quickly and easily.
Smaller security cages can cover areas from the size of a computer workstation to a single copier or VCR. They are useful in protecting electronic equipment in high-traffic areas like schools or waiting rooms from theft as they can allow for the use of electronics without allowing the electronics to be moved from their positions. They are often anchored or bolted to desks or walls, preventing the items from being moved at all.
A large cage can protect a cubicle workspace, providing a measure of security in a general area that can be accessed by a large number of people. These smaller cages are usually made up either of reinforced bars or of steel mesh. Bar style cages are nice for schools or universities that need to keep electronic equipment in classrooms without worrying about theft while the classrooms are unoccupied. They allow projectors or computers to be used over the course of the day without allowing them to be moved around the room or out of the room by anyone not authorized to do so.
Security cages allow documents, medicines, electronics or other expensive or sensitive items to be kept secure while still allowing unrestricted use by authorized personnel. They can be used to increase security in already secure areas or to secure items in publicly accessed areas. They also come in a convenient range of sizes to keep any range of items safe and sound.
