No Rain On My Cake - Event Tents

If you are planning any sort of event outside, you might want to make sure you have some event tents ready in case of the rain or anything else that might happen. Many people have planned events outside and just hoped that it wouldn’t rain, or even snow. I was just at a wedding recently where snow, sleet and rain ruined the affair. The bride did not have any type of back up planned, even though the event was in October. There was no tent and she refused to move the ceremony. We all froze. It was a horrible scene and utterly ridiculous.

There is something beautiful about having a ceremony outside and family reunions are almost always planned to be outdoors events. There is always the unknown to deal with and event tents can help when this happens. Though tents can’t help you if it’s snowing, as it will still be freezing cold, they can help when it rains on a special day. If you don’t want to move your event indoors, at least the event tents can keep your guests dry. If you suspect that wind might be a problem, you can get tents that have sides. That way when the wind is gusting you might be able to keep things under control.

You may want to have event tents regardless of what the weather might be. Even when the sun is out all day, there can still be problems. The sun can get awfully hot and when this happens, you need a place for your guests to get out of the sun and the heat. Event tents can’t be air conditioned, but they can offer some sort of relief. If you have any guests who may be ill, or are elderly, they will most definitely need a cooler place to sit down and rest.

Event tents are available at rental shops and you can find almost any size you may need. If you can’t find one big enough, you may have to rent two. Just make sure that if you are using event tents are back up only, that you know how to put them up if you need to do so in a hurry. Spend the money to get a really good model and make sure all of the pieces are there before you take it home with you. A tent won’t help much if you can’t get it up before everyone’s day is ruined.

The Most Powerful Symbol - The America Flag

As a British citizen, I can look on the Stars and Stripes with an objective eye. The America flag certainly seems to be more important to the American people than the United Kingdom flag is in the UK. It’s significance seems to lie in its symbolism and it’s history. In the UK, we take our flag for granted. I’ve been to a lot of countries in the world and it’s safe to say that no other country flies it’s flag as often as in the US. The British tend to bring out the flag when there’s an important sporting occasion and we want to show our support for the team, usually for soccer, rugby or cricket. The America flag is flown on more public buildings and private homes too.

The symbolism associated with flags gives an insight into a nation’s consciousness. It’s been said that the stars of the America flag represent a goal to be reached and the stripes signify the sun rays coming down from above. The flag is tied in with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Constitution and the upholding of liberty. It has evolved over a number of years, having gone through 26 changes, into the flag we know today. The final America flag design was achieved in 1960, after Hawaii had joined the United States.

Images of the southern flag are still used today and a lot of southerners like to fly their old America flag as a display of their love of the south. Some people embrace this flag as a show of defiance, the south will rise again. Given it’s association with the slave trade and racial conflict of the south, a lot of people find the flying of this flag to be offensive.

There are numerous rules and guidelines covering the use and display of the America flag. Often, these guidelines are ignored. The flag is not supposed to be used to advertise anything, to be draped over vehicles or to be displayed on the side of garbage trucks etc. It should not be used on anything disposable like a cushion cover. Respect for the flag is paramount and the ultimate sin is to burn the flag. Anti-America protesters around the world have burned the America flag on occasion, as have anti-Vietnam War protesters within the US itself. A flag is a powerful symbol and none more so than in America where the citizens had to fight a war to gain their independence.

See Where You Are Sitting With A Seating Chart

A seating chart is of great benefit when a major event is coming to town and planning is necessary. When an event such as a sports game, a touring concert, or a popular musical is being held in a stadium, ticket purchasers are able to view a seating chart of the facility. This lets them know how nice a view they have and which seats are really worth paying for.

Some people would rather buy more expensive tickets closer to the stage while others would prefer cheaper seats farther away from the action, as long as the seating chart promises a decent view. Having the ability to view the venue before committing to seats allows the customer to choose the seats that both afford them the view they want, while at the same time fit into their budget.  It not only helps customers, but also assists the management of the stadium or hall. When a seating chart is shown ahead of time, perhaps on a website or a brochure, it results in fewer misunderstandings and more satisfied customers, who know the kind of seats they’re reserving in advance.

A seating chart is a visual depiction of a stadium or hall’s seating arrangements as relates to the stage. The stage is usually at the top or bottom of the page and a group of elongated triangle shapes above that represent the different levels of seats. They are usually arranged alphabetically, the beginning letters of the alphabet representing the closest seats to the stage and so on until the letter Z. If there are sub-levels then sometimes ground level seats are referred to with A-Z, while high level seats are identified with double letters from AA to ZZ. Many seating charts also give exact measurements of the chairs and entire seating area.

These charts are not just for informational purposes. Weddings planners and teachers can also use a seating chart to better organize their days. A wedding planner might depend on a seating chart as a blueprint to physically arrange the chairs. A teacher likewise might want to create a seating chart not only for desk organization, but also to measure the progress of students.

Thanks to the Internet, seating charts are now viewable online. Beyond that, you can even create your own seating chart for planning your next event, whether it is a classroom, wedding or party. You can customize the details of your seating chart, map out a blueprint and use it as a physical reference.  Need a seating chart? The Internet can help you organize your day.

Two Peas In A Pod - Birth Announcements For Twins

Having a baby is one of the most amazing experiences any couple can have.  When you have twins everything including the joy has just increased two-fold. You’ll want everyone you know to share in your good news.  Birth announcement for twins can be great fun. You have two new bundles of joy so it’s fun to incorporate that into the announcements. There are several inventive ways to do this that will make the event an even more memorable one.

One idea is to visit a printing shop and look through the birth announcements for twins that they have. Many of these will probably feature images of two things on the front of them. That might be two baby booties, two small ducks or you can even request the addition of images of your twins.  Inside you’ll have them print up the information about the baby’s birth including their names, their birthday and their weights. These birth announcements for twins are affordable and you can send them out to anyone you think might want to share in your special arrival.

Many people decide to step outside of the traditional box when it comes to birth announcements for twins. They design their own. If you are creative this is a great way to express your own joy regarding the event.  You might use a picture of the entire family or you might dress the twins up in fun outfits. A popular choice in this regard is renting a two peas in a pod outfit and taking pictures. Not only will this make a great keepsake for the people receiving the announcement you’ll also be able to take the image you use and display it in your home.

If you are only sending out a few birth announcements for twins to select family members you might want to consider something a bit more extravagant. There are several companies that can create a really unique and unusual way for you to announce the arrival of your twins. They specialize in birth announcements for twins and triplets that most people aren’t accustomed to seeing.

One way is to have a mock newspaper page printed up. This will be dated the same day the twins were born and it will feature all kinds of information regarding their delivery, their futures and even some fun facts about mom and dad. A nice image of the twins can be displayed and the people you give this too will treasure it always.

Another very fun and relatively new idea for birth announcements for twins is to have candy bar wrappers printed that announce the event. These resemble real candy bar wrappers but instead of the ingredients in the candy bar you’ll find the details about the twins listed. Although the recipients might decide to dine on the candy bar they’ll keep the wrapper as a reminder of the day the twins burst onto the family scene.

Keep Your Loved One In Heaven And Name A Star After Them

For a long time, when people wanted to get an unusual and very cool gift for someone, they went online and bought the opportunity to name a star. This is a great gift, but you have to remember one thing. You can name a star and you can pay for it, but you should know that it is a novelty gift only. This is much like paying to ‘own’ land on the moon. You really don’t own it and you really don’t have the rights to name the star, but it sure sounds like fun.

When you name a star, you are usually charged a fee for the opportunity. There are many places out there that do this for you, and you usually get documentation. What they can’t promise is that they aren’t selling the rights to name the same star to someone else, and that they can even offer you this service. You should look into where the money is going that you pay when you name a star. Is it going for a good cause, or is it perhaps just going into someone’s pocket?

That doesn’t mean you can’t name a star, and it is a neat gift to get from someone. As long as you know it’s not really a real thing and as long as you realize you aren’t really paying to have a star officially named after someone. I’m sure there is a directory somewhere with the official names of stars, but your name won’t be included. When you name a star, you are given the information about that star, if there is any, and also the exact position in the sky to view it through a telescope on a clear night. You may be given certificates to give to the namesake and these can be framed and hung on the wall.

Perhaps one of the best things you can do for someone who has suffered a recent loss is to name a star in their honor and present the paperwork to the family. You should probably explain that it’s not official, but it is something they can view each night in the sky to remember and honor their loved one. You may also want to name a star when you lose a beloved pet to keep their memory alive. This may help you with some of your grief, and that might be worth the asking price alone.

Name A Star - Save Money And Do It Yourself

Who wouldn’t want to name a star?  We’ve been looking up at the stars with wonder every night ever since we evolved eyes, and we’ve been naming them different things ever since we evolved the ability and desire to name things.  Now you can actually pay money and ‘officially’ name a star anything you want so long as its within a 39 letter limit.  The idea to charge money to name a star is pretty brilliant you have to admit.  The right to name a star is a product that costs the seller absolutely nothing, and is actually not there’s to sell in the first place.  Anyone can look up at the sky and name a star for free, it’s pretty much a God given right.  A company that is making a decent living selling people something they already have is a pretty smart company.

Though they make it sound very official and widely recognized, when you name a star through one of these star naming companies.  It isn’t in anyway official at all and is a purely symbolic gesture that no one will ever know about.  While it’s a romantic idea to name a star after the one you love, its going to pretty much be only you and the person you love that knows about it.  What you are really paying for when you pay to name a star is a piece of paper that acts as a kind of certificate, proving that you paid money to name a star.

You can even pay more money to have this trophy to your own stupidity framed so you can mount it on a wall for everyone to see.  You have to love this deal.  Paying anywhere from 30 to 70 dollars and you get a piece of paper saying that you paid somewhere between 30 and 70 dollars.  If I ever get the urge to name a star, I think I’ll just point up at the sky and do it myself.  It’ll save me some money and will be a small step in preserving paper for a more important use somewhere else.  Having said all that, one of these days I’m going to pay the fee and name a star ‘I Hate Microsoft’ just for the heck of it.  It’s well within the 39 letter limit and might just go a long way in helping me express my pent up rage toward the software giant.  Which could in turn save me the expense of much needed therapy down the road.

Ward Off Death With A November Birthstone - Topaz

Birthstones harbor a lot of meaning, beauty and color. But out of the twelve stones, the stone for the month of November beats them all. If you’re a gemstone collector or even a gem enthusiast, you know no set is complete without the magnificent November birthstone. But what do you really know about the November birthstone? There’s a lot of information out there about rocks and minerals, but no one ever seems to have the all you need to know book about this breathtaking rock.

The Topaz is the stone that symbolizes being born during the month of November. Many people always assume a Topaz is just a transparent gold and yellow stone, but that’s not always the case. The November birthstone can come in many colors, such as blue, light green and even pink.  The name Topaz actually originated from a Greek word that meant to shine. It also gave the hint of an implication of fire. Greeks from way back in the day felt that the now November birthstone actually gave them power and strength. It was said that the Topaz could ward off certain aliments and even a death that was rather sudden!

Everyone loves having birthstone jewelry, but how do you take care of a pair of birthstone earrings? There are certain rules and guidelines you must follow to the letter in order to ensure the well being of your gems. Always remember to wipe off your stone with a dirt free, soft, wet piece of cloth after you’ve worn it. By remembering to do this you’ll be ensuring that beautiful shine never dies. Storing your November birthstone in a small, smooth bag helps keep oils and dirt away from your stone.

When you’re wearing your birthstone jewelry, make sure you do everything in your power to keep them away from salt water. Remember that sweat is basically salt water, so it’s never a good idea to wear your pieces when you anticipate a raised body temperature. Hard compounds and chemicals like chlorine can harm your November birthstone by eroding away its finish and polish.  Detergents are also rather harmful and can act in the same manor that chlorine does. Be sure to never apply hair products, such as hairspray or hair glitter, when wearing your November birthstone. It’s important you apply all scents and toiletries before you put your gems on.

While it’s true that the Topaz is a gemstone and thus has the ability to last for generations, it’s always important to handle them with care. They are very durable, but have the capability of breaking if handled poorly. It’s also very important to keep your gems and stones separated when you store them. Never let one stone touch another for the simple fact that they could scratch each other. A November birthstone is very beautiful, so it’s important to take proper care of them.

Don’t Mock Your Host - Wear A Cocktail Dress

Recently my husband and I attend a formal fund raising event for our church. The evening included drinks and appetizers followed by a dinner. The evening also included a performance by a renowned string quartet. The event was advertised as a formal event and the tickets were quite expensive. We live in a small resort town in the lakes area of our state. Because we are a resort area the dress tends to be very casual. The organizers for the fund raiser did not want casual attire so they emphasized that this was to be a formal event during their promotions.

My husband and I are strong supporters of our church so we decided that we would attend the event. I wore one of my cocktail dresses and my husband wore a suit. When we drove into the parking lot of where the event was being held I could not believe the clothes that I was seeing. Many of the women had on cocktail dresses, but some had on formal gowns. Others had on dresses that must have been worn as a bridesmaid dress at one point. One group of women had on a mixture of old bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses. They each wore a hat and several also had feather boas. I told my husband that I felt like I was going to a Halloween party rather than a formal event.

As we approached the door two of the women that were involved in organizing the event were greeting people. They were both tastefully dressed in cocktail dresses. They were visibly upset over the group that had arrived in the strange formal attire. One of the organizers is a friend of mine. We went to a secluded area so she could rant for a few minutes. She had tried so hard to promote a nice social event and she felt that the group of women were mocking her. I tried to tell her that they were the ones that looked out of place.

I also reminded her that even though the people that come to our resort area have a great deal of money, many of the local people, who are members of the church, have low paying jobs. These women most likely could not afford to buy cocktail dresses to wear for one evening. The group of women drew a great deal of attention. They also seemed to have a great deal of fun. As the evening progressed people enjoyed the drinks, food and music. By the end of the evening it did not seem to matter if you were in cocktail dresses or old formals. When the one organizer continued to complain about the group of women, I reminded her that they had paid the price for the tickets and they had not worn jeans.

Be Someone Else And Go To A Costume Party

Having 20 little six-year olds racing through my house was not exactly something that I’d wanted to do with my weekend. But it was my daughter’s birthday and she’d wanted to have a princess party. I had not been able to say no. So my sister-in-law and my husband and I decided to chaperone a princess costume party and try to keep the house from being destroyed. She’d send out invitations telling her little friends that it was her birthday and that she was having a princess costume party. All of the other girls seemed incredibly thrilled about it and I’m certain that their mothers were happy to have an evening to themselves.

For my daughter, having a costume party was a dream come true. If she had it her way, she’d live in her dress-up clothes. I won’t allow her to wear them to school, but she puts them on once she gets home. She’s even worn them to the mall and restaurants before. I’m not about to complain - she looks adorable as a little princess and it makes her happy. I could tell from glancing at some of the other girls’ costumes, that their mothers had improvised princess costumes for them. They all looked absolutely adorable. It was her best birthday party ever, she had informed me afterwards.

Having a costume party isn’t just something that goes over as a huge hit for children. Adults sometimes love the opportunity to feel young and playful again, doing something that is out of the ordinary for them. Halloween is an excellent time to have a costume party, of course, but don’t limit yourself to just that holiday. It might be incredibly fun to get an invitation to a costume party at any time of the year. Your costume party could have a theme, encouraging everyone to dress from a certain time period or a particular character. Having a costume party doesn’t have to cost very much money or require much work to organize. You don’t even have to send invitations. Call your friends on the phone to invite them or send email invitations.

One of the most fun and eventful costume parties that I’d been to was actually a murder mystery. I received an invitation that assigned me a certain personality and character, and I had to dress for the part. The party ended up being so much fun. Everyone who attended absolutely loved doing something so out of the ordinary. Throw a costume party and see for yourself.
