Go Out On A Limb And Try Tree Climbing

One of the best parts about growing up in a rural area like I did was the ability to run around and play outside all day long. I used to go out in the morning and would spend my days playing in the fields and woods near my home. My mom never had to worry about me much, though she did have some rules. I could explore the world around me, and I found that tree climbing was one of my favorite activities and I spent quite a lot of time climbing up and enjoying the view.

I always loved tree climbing and I never fell out, which looking back, I am surprised that I never did. I never had any help, except perhaps a boost from my friends, and we would climb as high as the tree would allow. We were always smart enough to stop when it seemed the tree could not longer hold our weight or if perhaps a branch looked like it might break or fall off if we were to step on it. I spent a lot of time tree climbing and I think that is the reason why I stayed so healthy and active back in those days.

I was surprised to find that tree climbing has become something different than what it was when I was a kid. I have seen pictures online of people wearing safety equipment and using ropes to do tree climbing, much like you would if you were rock climbing. I don’t understand what is up with all of the rope, though I do understand the safety equipment. It never hurts to be safe. I never needed a rope to climb a tree and I can’t imagine that it can be as much fun that way.

The best part of tree climbing was always the freedom of climbing up and sitting there above the ground. It’s actually hard to explain but it was always an accomplishment to climb a tree that perhaps no one else had climbed before. Today though I understand the equipment, I just can’t imagine that I would enjoy it as much. Though I can’t see myself taking up tree climbing anytime soon, I do think that if I did, I would do it the old fashioned way, the way I did it as a kid, the way that kids for generations have done it.

Read All About It - Used Books For Sale

I have always loved going to used book sales. When I was a kid, one of the greatest treats was the library sale. We would go once every few months. We lived in a large town with a great library. The library was so big, in fact, that even the books that they got rid of were great.  There would be literally tens of thousands of used books for sale for far less than they were worth.  Everyone in my family was a book lover, so we would go there and fill up boxes and boxes of books. For 20 dollars each, we would have enough reading for six months.

Nowadays, I am more pragmatic in my purchases. You see now that I’m going to college, I have to save my money more carefully. The only books that I usually get to buy are used text books for sale. Most of the classes keep the same reading from semester to semester, so usually you can find any book that you need, used. There are books for sale used on just about every topic. Bookstores in college towns, you see, are some of the best.

Of course, one of the best sources of used books for sale is the Internet. Although using the Internet does not match the excitement of a good used books sales where you get to peruse all of the selections yourself, it still has some advantages. There are so many used books online that it is hard to keep track of all of them. Almost anything you could want can be found online. When I first discovered buying books over the Internet, it was like a dream come true. I had to physically leave my house to stop spending money that I didn’t have on used books for sale. That was how much of a temptation online book buying was for me.

To finance my voracious reading habits, I have begun to sell off my used books. Many of the best book stores depend on their readers for just that. Reading junkies will go and buy several used books for sale and then return them several months later at a significant loss. This will allow us to partially fund our reading habits. Meanwhile, it will keep the store well stocked with used books for sale. I suppose everyone wins. As long as I get to keep reading, I don’t care.

Take A Shot And Buy A Used Digital Camera

Digital photography is very popular but buying a quality digital can be a very expensive endeavor. My first digital was very cheap and it didn’t work well at all. It was good for taking snapshots outside in the bright sunlight but that was about it. I took it to a concert once and never bothered to take it again. The pictures were horrible. I now have a better camera, but it did cost me a lot of money. If you want something that works well but you don’t have a lot of cash to spare, you might consider getting a used digital camera.

You can find a good used digital camera if you look on e-Bay. There are tons of them there and you are likely to find the model that you are looking for. You may have to sit through a few auctions before you get the used digital camera that you want at the price you want. You may be outbid, but you will eventually find one that stays below a price that you can live with. Patience is the key and there are so many to be had, that the right one at the right price will come along.

Check up on any used digital camera that you want to bid on. Read every single thing the seller has listed with the camera so you know what you are getting. Though some of them seem to be so cheap it’s a huge bargain, you should know there is probably a reason for that. If you read through the description of the used digital camera, you may find that there is something wrong with it. It might be ok if you know you can get it fixed, but you don’t want to buy something defective if you don’t want the added expense of getting it fixed.

It is in your best interest to pay for any used digital camera you may find on e-Bay through Paypal or with a credit card. That way you can get your money back if the item is not as described or has more problems than the seller alerted you to before you bid. As long as you do your research, you should be able to find a quality used digital camera that is perfect for you. Just take your time and don’t get too excited or you may spend more than you wanted to.

Make Big Coin With Vending Machines

If you want to make some extra money, you might want to invest in some vending machines. You normally have to either rent or buy them and then have someone supply what you need to fill them up. The rest of the money you make above those expenses will be your profit. The more of them you have, the more money you are going to make. There are many places where you can put them but you should know that you might also have to pay a fee to place them in certain places.

Vending machines have more than just soda in them these days. You can get bottles of water and juices if you find the right machines. You can also find vending machines that are full of snacks and other food items for when you need something for a pick me up in the middle of the day. Though these have been popular in schools, many of them are now turning away from the ones that are full of sugary drinks and high calorie snacks to help keep the children in better shape.

If you want to have vending machines in schools, consider offering up healthy fare for the students. The schools may be more welcoming to you if you do. They want the kids to have healthy drinks and snacks, though the healthy snacks are harder to come by. Some may argue that this is not the best way to deal with vending machines and they think they should be banned altogether, but I think it is a great idea. If they can get something right there, that is good for them, they are less likely to go somewhere else for something that might not be the best choice.

There are places where you can place vending machines to make more money. I’m not sure how it works with hotels, but I do know they change a lot more for their drinks than you might find in a machine outside of your grocery store. The same could be said for vending machines in amusement parks and other like venues. They may have a company that they deal with for their machines, but you never know. If you can get in on that somewhere with someone, you stand to make a healthy profit, even if you don’t sell quite as much as you would like. If you want to make some extra cash without too much effort, this might be a good investment for you.

They May Be Ancient But They Sound Better - Vintage Acoustic Guitars

In a lot of ways the popularity of the guitar is a mixed blessing. After all, it is extremely hard to do something new with a guitar. Whether you play electric guitar or acoustic, almost everything possible to do has already been done. There have been so many guitar slinging rock stars, that the very instrument itself has become cliché.  Nonetheless, the sheer variety of guitars available, and the versatility of the instrument, more than make up for it. Whenever I go out looking for vintage acoustic guitars, I am grateful that the instrument that I chose to play is so popular.

There are so many different kinds of vintage acoustic guitars that it is hard to figure out where to start. A lot of people think that guitar collectors are just snobs. They think that one vintage acoustic guitar will be about the same as another. In reality, however, even the best guitar cannot deliver every possible sound. There are hollow body electric guitars, cutaway acoustics and of course the ever popular dreadnought guitars. There are 12 string acoustic guitars, dobros and lap steel guitars. Earlier, I said that everything possible to do has already been done with the guitar. Fortunately, this is also true with guitar design. Vintage acoustic guitars, come in about every configuration imaginable.

When I got my first guitar, it was a battered up old thing. It may have been ancient, but it was definitely not a vintage acoustic guitar. I played my heart out on it but I could only get so far. It seemed like there was an invisible barrier. Nonetheless, I loved playing and and as soon as I had the money, I looked at some vintage acoustic guitars. I settled on a Martin D12 which I found for an unbelievable price.  Martins are the kings of vintage acoustic guitars. At the time I did not know my luck, but now I do.

Once I started playing vintage acoustic guitars, something funny happens. All the sudden, I could play better! It was as if the instrument that I was playing had been holding me back. The feel was so good on vintage acoustic guitars and the tone was so beautiful, that it inspired me to play. Suddenly, I was learning faster than I ever had before and playing licks that I would not have even tried a few months before. This is why it is so important to play a good instrument, and why I have so much love for vintage acoustic guitars.

No Lemons Here - Warranties For Used Cars

I have owned quite a few cars in my life and almost all of them have been used. At first, it was because I didn’t have a lot of money. Cars decrease in value so quickly that buying used cars make sense. In general, they still have years of use in them, and you can save a buck. Buying new cars is prohibitively expensive for most people. It was the practicality of buying used cars that kept me at it for a long time. I have plenty of money now but who doesn’t like to save a buck?

The problem is that every once in a while, I get a lemon. I’m pretty shrewd about cars so it doesn’t happen very often. Nonetheless, there’s no way to prevent it all the time. Once I bought a used Mercedes that I thought would last for years, only to discover that the engine needed extensive work. At that point I swore that I would never buy a used car again. Then I discovered warranties for used cars.

I had no idea that such a thing as a used car warranty existed. I thought that when you buy a used car, you are on your own. Warranties for used cars makes a lot of sense, however. The companies that offer warranties for used cars can make a lot of profit. You see, if you are buying a used car by yourself there is no way to guarantee that it will not go bad. It is a risk that you have to take. But if a company that offers warranties for used cars is willing to inspect thousands of them and make sure that they are not lemons, it can turn a tidy profit. Used car warranties are only offered on cars that are up to a certain standard. Vehicles that are expected to fail quickly are not insured.

The problem is, of course, that warranties for used cars cost a lot more than new car warranties for comparative models. Even if you have had a car for a few years, if you are the only owner and can account for its record, you’ll have a much easier time getting a warranty for it. To get warranties for used cars, you have to get them carefully inspected. Just having them checked out costs a lot of money. It is not always worth it in the long run.

It’s Going To Be Heavy - Winter Camping

If you enjoy hiking and camping during the spring, summer and fall but wonder what to do once the snow starts falling, winter camping may be a great opportunity for you to continue doing what you love.  If you take a few important precautions winter camping can be as warm and as fun as camping in warmer months, and it can be easily combined with activities like snowshoeing and back country skiing to make for exciting weekend or even week-long adventures.

The two main differences between winter camping and temperate weather camping are pretty obvious - cold and snow.  Staying warm is a big concern, but it actually isn’t as difficult as you may think.  Dealing with snow is pretty painless as well, though you’ll need a four season tent, as three season tents are designed to keep out wind and rain but will collapse if they’re heavily loaded snow.  The extra support from a four season tent is definitely worth the cost and weight.

The trick to staying warm in winter weather is the same as staying warm in the warmer months - wear layers and stay dry.  Layers will allow you to carefully regulate your body temperature and avoid getting too cold or too hot by adding or taking off layers.  Though you may think that getting too cold is your only problem, overheating produces a lot of trapped sweat, which then lowers your body temperature quickly.  Getting soaked from the inside out is just as dangerous as getting wet from the outside in - both put you quickly at risk for hypothermia.  Melted snow will also get you wet quickly.  It’s important to make sure you have a good, full-coverage ground pad that keeps you sleeping bag high and dry above the snow beneath.

It’s also important to keep hydrated while winter camping, since your body uses a lot of water in the cold and it’s easy to become dehydrated without realizing it.  Don’t be tempted to eat snow instead of drinking water.  Not only will it drop your core body temperature, the energy required to melt the snow will make you more thirsty.

Finally, remember that all of the extra insulation required to stay warm and safe while winter camping is going to be heavy, so your pack will be heavier than it would be on an equally long summer trip.  You’ll eat more too, so you’ll probably want to plan for about a third more food per person per day.  These concerns, along with slower travel through the snow, will mean your winter expeditions won’t cover quite as much ground as your summer backpacking trips may have covered.

They Are Just Everywhere - Writers Resources

The Internet is a great place to find writers resources. Doing a simple Google search avails a writer of information on virtually any topic possible. The Internet takes a lot of the legwork out of researching a particular topic, location or historical figure, and allows for the convenience of doing this research from the comfort of your own home.  There are many forums, chat rooms and information sources with tips and hints on improving one’s writing. You can even find paid writing jobs that writing-related websites collect together for the convenience of all the writers out there. Also, upon joining any particular writers website you will likely receive monthly newsletters and even advanced reading copies of books from time-to-time.

So too, another great place to find writers resources is the local library. There are lots of books written on many writing-related topics, along with rules of grammar and punctuation and overviews of common writing styles.  Many local bookstores also offer writers resources. Along with actual books on the topic of writing and related subject matter, one can also join writers groups that generally meet on a weekly basis. This is a great way to share writing experiences, ideas and plot twists and get educated feedback from other writers in the group.

If you are looking to get published you can access additional writers resources by contacting large and small publishing houses who are sure to provide information on their publishing criteria. There are also options available for self-publishing if you wish to avoid the whole rigamarole of getting an agent and jumping through hoops for the larger publishing houses. Of course, this avenue won’t give you the benefits of being promoted and advertised, other than what you do yourself, but it can save you a lot of added expense if money is an issue for you. Often times, these self-publishing houses will offer some form of limited promotion through their website and again, the Internet can be very useful in getting the word out.

If you are simply looking for some paid writing work, there are several websites that offer great writers resources including lists of legitimate, paying freelance assignments and some long-term writing gigs as well. The good thing with finding work through these networks is that the website posting these opportunities has already checked out the legitimacy of these offerings, saving you a lot of time and headache.

Give Me The Real Deal - Wood Fireplaces Are Just Superior

We may all love or appreciate different seasons, but I can state one issue as fact. No one in their right mind wants to be burning hot or freezing cold. It’s just not comfortable. That’s why every summertime you’ll see central air blasting in homes across the country, and during the winter months you’ll spot smoke rising from countless chimney-tops. We like to keep things moderate. After all, our bodies have to be able to maintain a certain comfortable degree for us to be happy. Makes sense. Well, currently my concern is heat. As in I need it to stay warm and cozy in the home. This is why I resort to my superior fireplace to take the edge off. Sure, I like central heating and forced gas just as much as the next guy, but I LOVE my wood-burning fireplace. What do you cuddle up by?

Fireplaces are as popular as ever before. While gas has been deemed the superior fireplace in the last decade or two, wood-burning fireplaces seem to be making a comeback. This is most likely due to the rise in gas prices. Personally I have always preferred the real deal. There are some serious advantages that make the old-school wood-burning fireplace the superior fireplace to have in your home. Okay, so it’s no mystery that you’re going to have to purchase wood. It’s sold in cords and it’s generally delivered to your home. Where I live you can purchase a cord for 140 bucks. Not to shabby if you ask me. You’ll probably want to stack it in a rack of some kind and cover it with a tarp. It’s typically advised not to stack it in your garage, since it can draw termites. Now, once you’ve got the wood for the winter, you’re set.

Now, back to those advantages. For one, you can cook on a wood-burning fireplace. This comes in rather handy at times. Maybe you want a ho tdog or smores. Then there’s the fact that you don’t have to worry about gas leaks. Finally, the most important issue to address is power. What if yours goes out? How will you keep warm? Not a problem with a superior fireplace that burns wood. You don’t need power for these.  Ever since I was little I loved wood-burning fireplaces. The rage of the flames and the soothing crackle. If you’ve experienced this first-hand, you can definitely see why the wood-burning fireplace is indeed the most superior fireplace option of all.

Don’t Call Me - How To Get Off Telemarketing Lists

A long time ago, I was sure I was on every single one of the telemarketing lists in existence. Thankfully I had the option to opt out of getting these calls and the phone is not ringing off the hook all of the time now. That was a great relief, but now I have to deal with junk email. It seems that no matter what we do, these people find a new way to drive us crazy. Though I know they are only doing their job, but their job is driving me out of my mind.

Everyone has the option of getting off of telemarketing lists. The government started a do not call list and it is very easy to get your number off of those horrible telemarketing lists. There are some exceptions though. Charities can still call you and if you have done business with a company in the past, they may still be able to call you. However, a new company can not call you out of the blue to get you to try their products or services.

There are some companies that don’t follow the rules about telemarketing lists, however. Some of them try to disguise themselves as a charity to get around the rules. I had one such company call me and I was saddened by what they were doing. They were claiming to be a Christian charity, but the ‘donation’ they were asking for was in return for a product that had nothing to do with the church or any type of charity. I told them that if they called me again I would have to report them for breaking the rules about telemarketing lists. They did not call back.

If you think you are on some telemarketing lists, you can log onto the Internet to get off of them. It is rather simple, and you can find the page you need very easily. All you have to do is put “do not call registry” in a search engine and you can find the page you need. Make sure you are going onto a real government site though. Once you sign up and give the numbers you want removed, the page should tell you how long it will take for it to take effect. You may have to put up with a few more calls before they stop for good. You probably do not have to worry about your mobile numbers, as these companies cannot call those numbers anyway.
